Bartholomew’s voyage

Bartholomew Mukuta on discovering rowing, studying abroad, and giving back – all starting with a bursary from Educore Foundation

Bartholomew was brought up in a rural family in Kalumbila district in the northwest of Zambia. In 2014, he was offered a full scholarship through the Educore Foundation and our partner, the Trident Foundation, to attend Sentinel schools.

“Just after completing high school in 2020, I was offered a job to be a rowing coach at the Kansanshi Sports Foundation, who said they saw great leadership in me. The co-founder of the Sports Foundation helped me get a scholarship to study abroad and get my Professional Diploma in Sports Development at Barcelona University.

After graduation, I came back to my country to teach, help and empower the young people of Solwezi and the country at large in helping them discover their talents in the world of rowing. I have coached, represented my country in different countries and helped a lot of athletes in the world of rowing. One of my products is Mark Kakoma who’s now in the UK studying while rowing for Great Britain!

I worked with the Kansanshi rowing club for three and half years. I am now continuing my studies at the Copperbelt University, pursuing a degree in electrical Mechanical Engineering while working at the Kansanshi copper mine.”

In 2024, Bartholomew and Mark rowed 950km down the Zambezi to raise funds and awareness for clean water charities.
