The challenge
Education is Zambia’s most powerful lever for change.
Zambia is a young nation – nearly half the population is under 15. 25% of the global workforce will be African by 2050. Yet growing up here often means facing large class sizes, overstretched schools, and too few trained teachers.
The challenges are significant, but so is the opportunity. We seek to channel our support into building stronger foundations so that education can open lasting opportunities for Zambia’s next generation.
98%
of Zambian students cannot read or understand a simple text by age 10.
10%
annual increase in student numbers is being recorded nationally.
3%
of teacher numbers are increasing nationally each year, far below the growth in student enrolment.
3/4
Zambian children will not complete all 12 years of school.
